Hyperthermia Epsom Salt Baths
Taking a hot bath is a forgotten practice that is an incredibly useful modality for modulating nervous tone and immune function. By inducing an artificial fever-like state, the hyperthermia bath enhances circulation, encourages detoxification, and supports immune function. The addition of Epsom salts provides magnesium sulfate, which soothes sore muscles, calms the nervous system, and replenishes vital minerals.

Instructions:
-
Prepare the Bath: Fill your bathtub with water at a temperature between 101°F and 104°F. For safety, use a thermometer to ensure the water is not too hot.
-
Add Epsom Salt: Dissolve 2–6 cups of Epsom salts into the water, stirring until fully dissolved.
-
Set the Mood: Dim the lights, play calming music, or add essential oils like lavender or eucalyptus for an added therapeutic effect.
-
Enter the Bath: Immerse yourself slowly into the water, keeping your heart elevated above the waterline if needed for comfort.
-
Duration: Soak for 15–20 minutes or until you feel thoroughly warm and lightly perspiring.
-
Post-Bath Care: Carefully exit the bath to avoid dizziness. Wrap yourself in a warm robe or blanket and rest for 20–30 minutes. This helps your body integrate the treatment and maintain its therapeutic effects.
Cautions:
-
Stay hydrated by drinking a glass of warm water or herbal tea before and after the bath.
-
Avoid this bath if you are pregnant, have cardiovascular concerns, have any other contraindicating conditions, or are prone to overheating. Consult with your healthcare provider if you have any chronic conditions.
Progressions:
This technique can be modified for time and temperature to make it more or less intense depending on individual need and tolerance.
